Pro-Life Not Pro-Trump

It can be very hard for a pro-life person to vote for a Democrat – even if the only alternative is Trump with all of his problems.  For the life-long pro-lifer this goes against years and years of voting patterns.

I am a pro-life person but I was not always that way.  Many years ago in a college biology class, I was looking at the chick embryo through a macroscope.  With my naked eye all I saw of the chick embryo was a blob of tissue.  But when looking through the magnification of a macroscope I saw a beating heart! I saw blood rapidly moving through an array of vessels – like a high speed film of cars racings around at night on big city expressway loops!  This was life!

I also acknowledge how in the bible it refers to life in the womb.  Psalm 139:13-16 says, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

So how can I as a pro-life person justify voting for Democrat Harris and not Trump the supposed pro-life candidate?

My first reason is that the true pro-lifer has to hold human life at ALL stages as sacred – not just the first few weeks or months of life. This means we hold life from conception to birth to childhood to adulthood – all the way up to death as sacred.

While Donald Trump has done good work on behalf of the unborn person (i.e. reversing Roe vs Wade), his regard for life at other stages is lacking.  He doesn’t understand why servicemen die on behalf of their country.  He does not want to be seen with disabled veterans.  His lack of respect for the advice of our military leaders and diplomats is sure to get us into major conflicts with thousands or millions of lives lost.  He dismisses climate change and what could be done to mitigate the adverse effects including death.   Millions are at risk around the globe – especially those people living in vulnerable areas with limited resources.  So, a vote for Trump is not really a vote for life.

Pro-lifers care about people.  Trump does not.  Many have diagnosed him with narcissism.  According to the Mayo Clinic “narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance. They need and seek too much attention and want people to admire them. People with this disorder may lack the ability to understand or care about the feelings of others.”

Trump likely takes a pro-life position because he wants the evangelical vote.  Once he is sworn into office and takes on his dictator role, he will no longer need the evangelical vote.  He will no longer need any person’s vote.  He will have all the power he needs to purse whatever is in his best interest and his political agenda.

Even though Harris is pro-choice, at least she is preserving our democracy and the ability of the people to have some say in the laws they are governed by.  In some sense pro-lifers might see this as losing the battle with a Harris presidency, but they have not lost the war and the pro-life fight can go on because we will still have an intact democracy with the opportunity to have our voices heard.
